What is Hawick in Bloom and what does it do?
Each year in Summer and Winter, Hawick in Bloom – a group of willing volunteers from the town – give of their time to plant and maintain watering of the many bedding plants which are located in planters or beds from the Station Bridge, right along the High Street to Tower Knowe, the Heart of Hawick and also at Haughhead coming into Hawick. These bedding plants provide an array of colourful plants to brighten our town, for the benefit of our town’s people and visitors alike. There are currently 45 planters or beds in all requiring planting.
Hawick in Bloom Group is also responsible for the planting of over 1000 bedding plants at the side of our War Memorial located next to the Museum in Wilton Lodge Park – a much-visited area of our town.
Volunteers also help carry out maintenance works required to the gardens situated at The Round Close twice yearly.
The Group meets regularly to discuss planting requirements and projects to be undertaken.

Funding
Under the auspices of Hawick Community Council (HCC), Hawick in Bloom receives some funding from HCC each year towards its operating costs, e.g. costs of plants and maintenance of planters etc. The volunteers also seek sponsorship from local businesses and arrange twice-yearly fundraising events e.g. coffee mornings, bag packing at local supermarkets, to generate much-needed additional income.
In 2019, Hawick Common Good Fund awarded funding to cover planting costs at the War Memorial for 3 years.
