The membership of Hawick Common Good comprises six elected Councillors, i.e. three for Hawick & Denholm and three for Hawick & Hermitage and these Councillors are the only attendees with designated voting powers at meetings. One representative each from both Hawick Community Council and Burnfoot Community Council are invited to attend meetings as observers. Members of the public are also invited to attend as is any local media. Meetings are supported by Officers from Scottish Borders Council.

Hawick Common Good Fund is operated for the common good of the residents of Hawick, with similar schemes operating in other communities within Scottish Borders such as Duns, Galashiels, Jedburgh, Kelso, Lauder, Peebles and Selkirk, and may be used to provide community development.
